I think it would be useful to establish a common definition?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Definitions seem to range from:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt; A description of the approach an organisation wishes to follow in the management of these assets ie: a description of approaches, methodologies and tool.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt; A document describing the role of knowledge in the organisation. ie: a description of key knowledge and its role, which is used to help projects, services and individuals identify the actions they should be taking.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;A project or service level description of the working level actions that will be undertaken to develop, import or export knowledge. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;br /&gt; I started looking at what a business strategy should address. Specifically, a business strategy is a document that defines the direction of the business with sufficient clarity to enable decisions to be made and action taken. Therefore, to me, a knowledge management strategy should be defined as a document that “articulates the role of knowledge in the business with sufficient clarity that it enables decisions to be made”; as such it must identify key knowledge, knowledge gaps, commercially sensitive know-how, etc.&lt;br /&gt;Most knowledge management strategies I see only address (1) – how an organisation intends to manage its knowledge.&lt;br /&gt;What definitions do other people and organisations use?
